The History of Bees Maja Lunde What does a future without bees look like? In her wonderful debut novel, Maja Lunde imagines this dystopian future through the eyes of a young Chinese woman living in a bee- less 2098. Interwoven with this narrative are the tales of two bee-keepers from different generations and continents, whose stories set the stage for the eventual demise of bees. A “cli fi” tale concerned with impending environmental disaster, Lunde’s intricate attention to the relationships between her characters is equally compelling and provides much fodder for discussion.
