Top 40 Book Club : December 2009
5 MAP OF THE INVISIBLE WORLD TASH AW Set in Indonesia in 1964, the 'year of living dangerously', this is the story of 16 year old Adam who witnesses soldiers seizing his adoptive father, Karl, a Dutch-born Indonesian patriot. Adam is troubled by fleeting, elusive memories of events at the orphanage before he was adopted by Karl. His brother, Johan, was adopted by a wealthy Malaysian family and he, too, is troubled by memories of the brother he left behind. This book with its story of the struggle of a nation finding its post colonial identity and two brothers struggling to deal with traumatic events of the past will provide much for book club members to discuss.
