25 HANDLE WITH CARE JODI PICOULT Charlotte and Sean O'Keefe are struggling to care for their much loved daughter who is facing a lifetime of pain. Charlotte thinks that by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against her obstetrician/gynaecologist for not telling her in advance that her child would be born severely disabled, she could solve the family's financial struggles. This raises many issues in the O'Keefe household, not least that the ob/gyn is Charlotte's best friend, and that Charlotte has to say in court that she would have terminated the pregnancy had she known about the disability in advance, words that Sean can not bear to hear. Handle with Care is a story that is filled with complicated moral and ethical questions about parenting, love and the financial costs of raising a child with disabilities.
