8 9 ‘ .. .he has accidentally fulfilled the terms of the dead stranger’s will and has inherited £17m . . . inhEriTancE // Nicholas shakespeare Andy Larkham is an unlikeable, disorganised, impecunious editor of exploitative self-help books. He blunders through life making huge mistakes and appears to be the victim of other people’s agendas. Good fortune finds him when he shows up late for the funeral of his favourite school teacher and runs into the wrong chapel. It turns out he has accidentally fulfilled the terms of the dead stranger’s will and has inherited £17m. The money is from Kirkor Marketich, a refugee from Armenia who made a fortune in Australia but lost his much loved daughter to his unfaithful wife. The novel then twists and turns through Marketich’s intriguing life, which is hindered by a compulsive swindler named Flexmore. A terrific read that you won’t be able to ‘put down’. F
