BOOK CLUB READS Top 40 FICTION 8 INSTRUCTIONS FOR A HEATWAVE Maggie O’Farrell During the London heatwave of 1976, Gret ta’s husband of 40 years goes out to buy the paper from the local shop but never returns. Speculation is rife as Gret ta’s children return to the family home to help with the search for their missing father, each with their own ideas about what has happened to him. None of them realise that their mother may have some ideas of her own. Exploring relationships in a 1970s Irish Catholic family is a large part of this novel. The background of the legendar y heatwave in London is constant and affects the behaviour of the characters throughout the story. While they have come together for the common goal of finding their father, each are dealing with their own issues. O’Farrell fans will enjoy her latest offering.
