24 ThE ChASE cHRIStopHeR kReMMeR Set in 1940s New South Wales, The Chase delves into the murky waters of drugs and sport in the world of horse-racing. Race fixing was rife as was horse doping and it is here we join young scientist, Jean Campbell and her boss Howard Carter, who take on the big names of the industry through the early introduction of drug-testing. Based on the life of Australian chemist, Jean Annie Kimble, Kremmer has captured the drama and society of Sydney at the time, still suffering from the effects of war. Although this is Kremmer’s first novel, the historical influence sets the story well.
